Finally!

Well let's see here now: I started looking for a job a couple months before I graduated last summer, looking primarily i the UK because I wanted to stay there and get the all-important Previous Experience I'd need to get a job here. Plus I loved Scotland and just didn't want to leave. When I'd failed to land even an interview by the end of my course I gave up on the UK and concentrated my job hunt on the US and my little area in NC. I knew the economy was in the shitter and I'd need to stay wit… Continue

Go vote, people!!

I voted early. On the first day of early voting actually. Not that it matters, but voted for Obama, and so did my mom, my uncle, my friend Holly, and my mom's friend Hollie. And I talked my friend Emily into voting Obama, too. Can't seem to talk my friend Jackie into Obama, but hey! Ya win some, ya lose some. Too bad the election can't be decided by my little circle, huh? Continue

Job interviews... eep!

Okay, so I've been job-hunting these past months since graduation, and I've nearly had three interviews, plus I've just recently taken a skills test for a writing and editing position with a local marketing firm, and I know I did well on the test, so I'm expecting to get an interview out of it. But the problem is that I'm terrible at interviews. Like, two of the three near-interviews failed to lead to real interviews because my dumb ass has no skills when it comes to interview-speak. (The third… Continue

Let's just jump on the Election Year bandwagon, shall we?

I'm trying not to be excessively political this election year; really, I am. I've come to the conclusion that nobody really cares about my political views any more this year than they did last year, so if my preaching at them won't sway them my way, why waste my breath? But I do have to harp on one thing that's been bothering me. Sarah Palin. I'm not going to blast her character, even though the news I've learned about her policies leaves me disposed to dislike her. What bothers me, though, is… Continue

How can it only be mid-month?

Jeez what a saga the last few weeks have been! So my mom got sick a few weeks ago, but being the stubborn, won't-go-to-the-doctor-unless-she's-dying female that she is, she waited for almost two weeks before she finally got me to drive her to the doctor's office. I had to drive because she was so weak from vomiting and diarrhea that she could barely even walk. So she goes to the doctor and gets all these tests done and I take her home and the next morning (31 July) her doctor calls me and says s… Continue

Sibling rivalry? Bitch, please!

Given that it's Father's Day, my topic of the day is going to be my father's unbelievably recent accusation that Seth and I have sibling rivalry with James. Seth is 31. I am 26. James is 3. What the fuck do we have to rival him over? Light up toys? Crayons? Pull-ups? We, as grown-ass people with our own lives to lead and responsibilities to take care of, have absolutely nothing to rival James over. I mean, it's not like I care about my father giving him a lot of attention; he's 3, he requires… Continue

Icky boys.

Okay, my brother and some of his friends are just nasty. I mean, fine, they're not nasty all the time, but they are nasty enough of the time to piss me off and frequently make my lips curl in that 'ewwie' kind of way. Take, for example, my brother's sinus problems. He hocks a lot of loogers because he's rather phlegmy. Which is gross all by itself, but if he just happens to be on the toilet when needing to hock one, he hocks it in the bathtub. And then he doesn't clean it out before he leaves t… Continue

It's done. Whoa.

I turned in my very last essay yesterday. I have completed grad school. All that's left now is to wait for my degree to come in the mail. I am so cool! Continue

WOOOT!!!

I had my final exam today, and I'm feeling good about it. And I go to Estonia tomorrow. New passport stamp! Yeeha. Plus I get to see an old friend I haven't seen in ages. Major wootness there. Excitement abounds. Continue

Lazy!

I have a shit-ton of things to do for this week, including (but not limited to) wash EVERYTHING I OWN to to a test run on packing to go home, package and ship anything that won't go in the suitcase, study for my final exam, TAKE my final exam, find out whether or not I can change my flight back to NC to an earlier date, prepare to go to Estonia this Friday, pay rent for the last time, close my bank account... Would someone please tell me the secret of self-motivation, because I don't particular… Continue

Interesting Lessons

So my grad course is coming to a close, and we're having our final exam preps this week. That's all going great, nothing to get worked up about, the exam will be fine. Thank God. But I've learned a few things this week that are... interesting. For example, at the end of each school year, a Prize is awarded to the one student in the class who stood out the most from everyone else. It's like graduating with highest honors, as opposed to just graduating with honors or less. So anyway, we've been w… Continue

Music and boredom

You ever just get completely sick of your own music collection? Lately my favorite stuff has just been annoying me. Well...Blink-182 isn't my favorite stuff, actually, but it's still annoying the shit out of me lately. And so is Eminem, which bothers me, because that is pretty high on my list. And I've really reached a point where I could be just fine never hearing anything by Cornershop again. But when Diamond Rio, Journey, or Hanson start to get on my nerves, that's BAD. I don't know what th… Continue

Rampant insecurity.

Y'know it's funny, but it never occurred to me before a few weeks ago that 'ideal' girls get insecure. Like this girl in my class who's thin, beautiful, popular, intelligent...she totally needs reassurance about all kinds of stuff. She went on a diet a couple months ago because of having "gained a ton of weight." I can't tell that's she's gained any weight this year, and I told her so, and she seemed genuinely surprised by that. Like she was thinking, 'homegirl you need to get your eyes checked.… Continue

Yeeha!

Okay, I am very excited to have just bought tickets to Estonia, so I can go see a girlfriend and penpal from college. I haven't seen Mirjam in years, so seeing an old friend is sweet. Plus, I've never travelled that far east before, so I'm stoked to be getting a new stamp in my passport and finally getting to see more of eastern Europe (I went to Prague on a choir tour in high school.) I'm bouncing off the walls a little bit. Two and a half weeks! Squee! Continue

Getting Drunk.

Why must some people get mean when they get wasted? I went to a friend's birthday party tonight. It was just a group of us from geek club getting together to have an MST3K night and bash some classic geeky movies - including, but not limited to, Transformers, Power Rangers, and ThunderCats - but, of course, being a birthday party meant that booze and takeout were the requisite refreshments. Anyway, this one guy, who's obnoxious all the time, but sometimes manages to be endearing about it, just… Continue

Doggy outfits.

Y'know, as much as I love dogs and think that they are one of the purest sources of joy on this planet - and probably most others - I really think that there ought to be a law against people putting their dogs - or just their pets in general - into clothes. You wanna put your chinese crested in your purse, fine. But don't make him wear a turtleneck. He's warm enough inside that bag, all cradled up beside your body. Anyway...have you seen the looks on these dogs faces when you're taking picture… Continue
