On March 1st 1988, I met Rev. Jesse Jackson. He was running for president and made a campaign stop in Pembroke, NC of all places. My mom took me to see him. I got to skip school and everything (I was seven, I thought that was cool). A Lumbee woman named Ruth Dial Woods presented Rev. Jackson with a quilt as a gift from the Lumbee tribe.
